Corporation Commissioner flags off ‘Fit India Freedom Run 2.0’ in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: City Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara on Saturday, here flagged off the nationwide programme ‘Fit India Freedom Run 2.0’ to celebrate 75 years of India's independence.



Coimbatore: City Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara on Saturday, here flagged offthe nationwide programme ‘Fit India Freedom Run 2.0’ to celebrate 75 years of India's independence.

The run which was kick starter by Sports Minister on August 15 will go on till October 2 cross 75 iconic locations across the country, who will further take it to 75 villages in nearly 750 districts of the nation. The event aims to reach more than 7.50 crore youth and citizens across the country.



Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Rajagopal Sunkara and Bharathiar University Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Kaliraj graced the occasion as special guests.



A total of 75 students from Bharathiar University, volunteers from NGOs and public took part in the event with zeal. The run started at Vadavalli and concluded at Bharathiar University campus, covering a distance of about 3 km. At the end of the run, all participants took pledge to stay fit and active.



Speaking on the occasion, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara said that the people of Coimbatore are very fitness conscious and enjoy walking and exercising. People can be seen walking at early hours at various parts of the city and various facilities have been set up to help walkers on behalf of the corporation, he added.

The event was co-organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Field Outreach Bureau and Bharathiar University Administration in collaboration with the Central Government.
