Rs. 1.75 crore worth lands belonging to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in Coimbatore: Encroachments demolished
Coimbatore: Commercial buildings that encroached Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in Coimbatore were removed. With that, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department reclaimed the temple land worth Rs. 1.75 crore. The commercial building occupied 265 square feet of land belonging to the Pettai Visvesvaraya Temple on Uppara Road, Coimbatore.
Similarly there were two commercial buildings of 1,060 square feet belonging to the Lakshmi Narayana Venugopala Swamy Temple. The occupants of this building did not pay rent and therefore a petition was filed in the Coimbatore Court on behalf of the Coimbatore Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Senthil Velavan, the joint commissioner of the Hindu Temples Department, issued an order to reclaim the temple land.
Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and South Tahsildar Punithavathi were present when the lands were being recovered with the security of the Big Bazaar police. The occupied building was then demolished and removed. The value of the reclaimed land is Rs. 1. 75 crores. Officials of the Hindu Temples Department said that the occupied areas would be inspected and recovery operations would be carried out.
