Under the leadership of Annapoorani Duraisamy of AIADMK who is the President of Zaheer Nayagan Palayam Panchayat under Thondamuttur Panchayat Union, the national flag had not been hoisted on Independence Day. The AIADMK Panchayat Secretary Rangaraj and ward members Ramasamy, Sujatha and Palanisamy submitted a memorandum to the Block Development Officer in this regard.
The Panchayat Secretary of this Union was severely reprimanded with a suspension by the District Collector for failing to hoist the national flag on Independence Day at Zaheer Nayagan Palayam Panchayat office.
