Coimbatore District Committee of CPM demands full investigation into Annur Otteripalayam caste abuse incident; Urges action against those who concealed facts

Coimbatore District Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded full investigation into the Annur Otteripalayam caste abuse incident and urged action against those who concealed facts.

Coimbatore: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Coimbatore District Committee has demanded a full investigation into the Annur Otteripalayam incident and action against those who concealed the facts.

The video footage of Muthusamy who was working as an assistant at the village administration office in Annur Otteripalayam village in Coimbatore district reportedly had to prostrate himself at the feet of Gopalsamy who was kown to be from an upper caste, went viral on social media on August 6.

The media has reported the exchange between both men as caste-based abuse based on preliminary reports. The incident was investigated on behalf of the District Revenue Department and a case was registered against farmer Gopalsamy based on the information provided by the Otteripalayam village administration officer and the village assistant who appeared before the inquiry committee.

In a new video that has been released, Gopalsamy refutes all caste-based allegations saying he went to the Village Administration Officer to inquire about the change of the lease of his land, but was attacked by the village assistant Muthusamy. He alleged that Muthusamy had verbally abused him and later fell at his feet pretending to apologize. Gopalsamy alleges that someone in the guise of a journalist had taken two videos and released only the video that recorded a part of the incident, with the intent to create social unrest.

It has been reported that the village administrator and his assistant also covered up the incident before a Government-appointed inquiry commission. The Coimbatore District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has therefore urged the district administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take appropriate action against the person who posted the false video and the Government employees who covered up the real incident. The Coimbatore District Committee of the Marxist Communist Party reiterated that they would always stand by the victims.
