Coimbatore: BJP MLA of Coimbatore South constituency, Vanathi Srinivasan issued a statement saying that the DVAC raids on former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani was an act of political revenge.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) were involved in a series of raids involving S P Velumani.
The Arappor Iyakkam has challenged Vanathi Srinivasan's statements in a post on their Facebook page. The post read: "The statement made by Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA, in support of former Minister Velumani is like promoting corruption. An FIR has been registered against Velumani and his associates following a lawsuit filed in DVAC in 2018 with evidence by Arappor Iyakkam urging action on the complaint. But Vanathi Srinivasan has reported that someone had arranged and complained.
The FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint lodged by Arappor Iyakkam. Even after all the news, why has she released this statement and to satisfy whom? Vanathi Srinivasan is insulting the Court as the Court itself admitted that there was basic evidence. Is this the eradication of corruption that Prime Minister Modi taught you? So if you know that the basic evidence in this case is false then let's have a discussion about this. Are you ready?"
When SimpliCity contacted MLA Vanathi Srinivasan on her phone for her response to Arappor Iyakkam's post, she was unavailable for comment.
The FIR lodged against S P Velumani stated that the former Minister had abused his official position and allotted projects worth Rs. 346.81 crores to companies owned by his relatives in Coimbatore Corporation and works estimated at Rs. 464.02 crores in Greater Chennai Corporation during 2014-18. On August 10, the DVAC raided 60 premises owned by S P Velumani and seized incriminating documents and cash. Following this, DVAC on Thursday froze the bank accounts of the AIADMK leader.
