S P Velumani and 17 close associates in the dock; Charges levelled are abuse of official position to amass construction contracts and blatant discrepancy in allocation of tenders

S P Velumani has come under the DVAC radar based on complaints that he has extended large-scale favouritism by abusing his official position as the Minister for Municipal Administration.


Coimbatore: In the wake of raids on Tuesday morning by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on 52 places owned by the AIADMK ex-Minister, S P Velumani, cases have been filed against him and 17 people closely associated with the former Minister for amassing wealth.

S P Velumani has come under the DVAC radar based on complaints that he has extended large-scale favouritism by abusing his official position as the Minister for Municipal Administration. He has been charged for awarding ‘construction’ and ‘supply of goods services’ tender works in Chennai and Coimbatore Municipal Corporations to his close associates, including his brother, kin and companies associated with them.

The cases have been filed after the raids were conducted as a follow-up based on a complaint lodged in 2018 with the Anti-Corruption Bureau by R S Bharathi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP and V Jayaraman, convener, ‘Arappor Iyakkam.’ A preliminary inquiry was conducted and the report forwarded to the Government and a copy submitted as status report to the Madras High Court.

DVAC SP, B Gangadhar had also filed a criminal complaint which had been referred to the Chennai High Court. Following this, raids were conducted at 52 premises owned by S P Velumani in Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Kanchipuram. In a 20-page FIR, 7 individuals and 10 companies have been charged in this connection.

Details of those charged are as follows:

1. Former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani.

2. Velumani's brother S P Anbarasan is a partner in companies including Senthil & Co, Shareholder in Sri Maha Ganapathi Jewellers.

3. KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd.

4. K Chandraprakash, Managing Director KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd. He is a partner of Temple Foundations Ltd., Contracts. Infra Ltd., Cin Victa Meditech Ltd., Consitromal Goods Ltd., Vitoria Hotels (Managing Director, & Partner), Ratna Lakshmi Hotels (Managing Director & Partner) Alam Gold Diamonds.

5. Chandrasekhar Managing Director KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd. is a partner of Temple Foundations Ltd., (Invicta Medi Peck Ltd) Constromal Goods Limited, Viturium Hotel Managing and Partner, Ratna Lakshmi Hotel (Managing Director & Partner) Alam Gold and Diamonds, Two Leaves Media.

6. S P Builders owner Murugesan.
