The bodies of a 70-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were recovered on the way to the Poondi temple, Velliangiri near Chemmedu in Coimbatore district. Alandurai police received information and seized the body.

Police said, "The couple are not locals and they appear to have come to the temple for 'Aadi Perukku'. The identity and motive for the suicide is not yet known. It seems that the woman had changed her 'thali' after coming to the temple."

The incident in which an elderly couple died after consuming poison on the road has saddened the people of the area.
