Coimbatore: District Collector G S Sameeran introduced a special WhatsApp number in Coimbatore as a measure to help the public report any bribe demand from the Government and various department officials.

Public have applauded the move where officials can be hauled based on just a Whatsapp message from the public. The District Collector announced the WhatsApp number 9597787550 for public in Coimbatore district to inform any bribery related complaints.

In a press release issued in this regard, the District Collector G S Sameeran said, "All Government department offices in Coimbatore district should have a sign saying "Accepting and giving bribes are a crime" for public viewing and awareness. The Assistant Superintendent of Police should have a board with the address of the Anti-Corruption and Surveillance Office and a cell phone number, so that complaints of bribery can be reported either in person or by cell phone.

Apart from the above offices, 95977 87550 is one number for public to lodge bribery related complaints in Coimbatore. A dedicated WhatsApp number has also been introduced. This also allows the public to lodge bribery complaints," he added.

Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran's action has reportedly caused a stir among Government officials and lauded by the public.
