Rs. 50 lakh worth of cotton bales and machinery gutted in fire blaze at private cotton mill near Palladam

A fire broke out at a private cotton mill near Palladam and damaged goods worth Rs 50 lakh.

Coimbatore: A privately-owned cotton mill operating on Palladam-Dharapuram Road at Kallipalayam in Kethanur near Palladam in Tirupur district employs over a thousand people from the north and south districts. Bundles of second-hand waste cotton were stored for sale at the godown. Workers at the mill were engaged in work as usual on Monday when they saw smoke billowing out of the godown.

Though the staff rushed to put out the fire, the blaze spread like wildfire due to the cotton bundles stacked in the godown. Following this, the fire department was informed and on receiving the information, the fire brigade arrived at the scene. The firemen sprayed water through the truck pipes and fought for an hour to bring the fire under control.

It is estimated that the fire destroyed 50 lakh worth of cotton bales and machinery piled up in the godown. Palladam police are investigating the reason for the blaze, while preliminary investigations have revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical leak.
