Farmers have requested the District Collector in a video conference through the meeting that was held today under the chairmanship of Coimbatore District Collector GS Sameeran. Pollachi Farmers' Center building, Pollachi area farmers participated and appealed to the District Collector on various issues through video conferencing.
During the last regime in Tamil Nadu, a government issued order to provide uninterrupted three-phase electricity to farmers. But so far three-phase electricity is not available to farmers, so they urged immediate action should be taken to make three-phase electricity available. Water from Thirumurthy Dam for the fourth zone irrigation is scheduled to be opened on August 3. But there are various obstacles in getting water to the farmers up end canal. Illegal water theft is taking place by digging wells near the main canals and using boreholes. Similarly, a number of coir industry companies are misusing water for agriculture.
The farmers have demanded that a monitoring committee headed by the district collector be set up to prevent this and take action to prevent water theft.
