Coimbatore: Not long ago, law and order DGP Sylendra Babu sent a circular to all district SPs that all police personnel on duty in Tamil Nadu would be given one day off a week. Policemen on duty in Tamil Nadu continue to work day and night. They do not have holidays on Sundays like other government officials. They are forced to go to work whenever they are called within 24 hours notice. Even on important festive days like Deepavali, Pongal, Ramadan they work without being able to spend time with family. As a result, the guards suffered from depression and many others died a few days ago due to a heart attack.
With this in mind, yoga and stress reduction exercises were given on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Police authorities. On the basis of this the newly appointed DGP Sylendra Babu sent a circular some time ago. In it he said, DGP Sylendra Babu has ordered that the police in Tamil Nadu should be given one day off a week. In a circular sent to allCity Police Commissioners and SPs in this regard, DGP Sylendra Babu said that the police should be given one day off a week to spend adequate time with health and family. The police were informed to give police off on their birthdays and wedding days. He also advised to ensure overtime pay to the police who do take weekends off.
