Outstanding amount to be paid by Electricity Board to the wind power generators in Tamil Nadu is Rs. 6,400 crores; Wind power generators demand CM to take action
Coimbatore: The wind power generators in Tamil Nadu have demanded that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin take action to expedite the payment of Rs. 6,400 crores arrears of two years to the wind power generators. Power generation projects, including solar and wind play a key role in meeting the growing demand for electricity. There is a structure to generate 9,500 MW of electricity through wind farms, throughout Tamil Nadu. The wind power generation season is from late May to September each year. Tens of millions of units of wind power were generated last year. It is estimated that more than 10,000 million units of electricity will be generated by the wind farm, this year as well. While it is gratifying that more wind power is being generated annually, the outstanding amount to be paid by the wind power generation to the power plant is in thousands of crores.
According to some of the wind power generators in Tamil Nadu, 'Every year in Tamil Nadu, wind power generation is done better. Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board procures electricity generated by wind farms. However, there is a long delay in paying the amount due for the electricity generated. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has a due of Rs. 6,400 crores to be paid. Thus wind power generators are in a financial crisis. The wind power project plays an important role in meeting the increasing demand for electricity. With the onset of the current season, wind farms are contributing 30 percent of the daily electricity consumption across Tamil Nadu. This contribution is expected to increase further in the coming days. The Government of Tamil Nadu should take steps to expedite the payment of arrears in view of the development of such a specialized wind power generation sector.'
They said in the interest of wind power generators, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should intervene and take action to pay the outstanding amount to the Electricity Board as soon as possible.
