Forest Department presents gifts to school children on International Tiger Day in Valparai
Coimbatore: International Tiger Day was celebrated in Valparai on Thursday in Coimbatore district amidst the Government's announcement that Tiger Day should be celebrated in a simple manner owing to the threat of Coronavirus infection spreading in Tamil Nadu.
Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation and held annually on July 29.
Competitions were held from June 15-25 to celebrate International Tiger Day at wildlife sanctuaries in Valparai, Manampalli, Ulandi, Topslip and Pollachi under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve. The online competitions were held for school children to write articles, draw pictures and sing songs about tigers, on the theme of Saving Wildlife and Nature.
198 students from across Anaimalai Tiger Reserve participated in this competition, with 120 school children participating in Valparai Manampalli Wildlife Sanctuary.
Valparai Wildlife Sanctuary's Jayachandran and Manampalli Wildlife Sanctuary's Manikandan presented prizes for the first three top entries as well as consolation prizes for the school children who participated in the competition, at the Valparai Manampalli office.
