Water to be released from Thirumoorthy Dam for fourth phase irrigation on August 3

The decision to release water from Thirumoorthy Dam for fourth phase irrigation on August 3 was taken at consultative meeting.


Coimbatore: A consultative meeting was held at the Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project Office on Udumalai Road in Pollachi to decide on the release of water from the Thirumoorthy Dam for the fourth phase of irrigation. It was later decided at the meeting to release the water on August 3.

About 3,75,000 acres of land in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts are being irrigated by the Thirumoorthy Dam under the Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project. The consultative meeting was chaired by Engineer Muthusamy and was attended by various farmers, Thirumoorthy Dam Irrigation Board Chairmen and Project Committee members. At the meeting, the farmers demanded that water be released from the Thirumoorthy Dam for the fourth phase irrigation from August 3.



Currently, the water level of the dam is rising significantly as the southwest monsoon intensifies. Therefore, public work authorities have given approved water to be released from the Thirumoorthy Dam for the fourth phase irrigation from August 3. Officials said up to five rounds of water will be provided for the 4th phase irrigation this time. Farmers in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts are overjoyed at the decision taken at the consultative meeting.
