Coimbatore: Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government increase the purchase price of milk by three rupees per liter.
Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said in a statement:
'MK Stalin, who took over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, said the selling price of Aavin milk was Rs. 3 will be reduced. We welcome this on behalf of the BJP as it will be very useful to the public. However, I would like to bring to the notice of the Chief Minister that this decision of the Government of Tamil Nadu has had a negative impact.
The selling price of Aavin milk has been hiked to Rs. 3. The Government of Tamil Nadu has reduced the purchase price by the same amount i.e. Rs. 3 should have increased. But by not doing so, the dairy farmers, the poor dairy farmers, the landless wage labourers and the oppressed community have been severely affected. As the selling price of Aavin milk was reduced, private milk companies were also forced to reduce the price.
Private milk companies have also slashed purchase prices due to lower selling prices. Although this price reduction has not been officially announced, the previous purchase price was not available to cattle breeders. Many private companies have kept payments for cattles on hold for months.'
She added, 'On the one hand, the farmers complain that the purchase price for the cow breeders who supply milk to Avin through the Milk Producers' Co-operative Society is still kept in arrears. In addition, the co-operatives do not receive all the milk brought by the people from lower strata of society and they face huge losses. Therefore, in the interest of the people who raise cows in the villages and depend on it for their livelihood, the purchase price of milk should be increased by Rs. 3. Otherwise, the DMK government will face the wrath of the cattle breeders.'
