Strong winds during 'Aadi' month aid wind farms in contributing one third of Tamil Nadu's total electricity demand

Coimbatore: Since the beginning of the Tamil month of 'Aadi,' wind power generation across Tamil Nadu has increased significantly.

Coimbatore: Since the beginning of the Tamil month of 'Aadi,' wind power generation across Tamil Nadu has increased significantly.

Wind farms are starting to contribute one-third of the daily electricity demand. Wind farms play an important role in meeting the increasing demand for electricity. There are structures to generate 9,500 MW of electricity throughout Tamil Nadu. The wind power generation season is generally from the end of May to September, each year.

The wind power generation season has reportedly started earlier this year, in the first week of April itself. With wind speeds having increased since the start of the Tamil month 'Aadi,' the electricity generated daily has also increased significantly.

Kasturirangayan, President of the Indian Wind Power Generators Association (IWPA) said, "10,000 million units of electricity were generated by wind farms during the last season. This year, the season started in the first week of April. The Tamil month of 'Aadi' is the 'peak season' in wind production. The amount of electricity generated daily has also increased significantly due to the high speed of winds, at present. The maximum power consumption in Tamil Nadu was 309 million units on Wednesday (July 21). Of this, 101 million units were contributed by wind power. Wind power is beginning to contribute one-third of Tamil Nadu's total electricity demand. The contribution is expected to increase in the coming days," he added.
