Coimbatore: The new wage agreement of tea plantation workers in the Valparai area of Coimbatore district ended last month. Tea plantation managements, however, have been delaying implementation of the new wages without calling on the unions to strike a new deal. As a result, it was decided to hold a protest in front of tea estate offices, demanding the payment of Rs. 600 under the leadership of V Hameed.It was decided to hold a protest in front of every tea estate office emphasizing the 19-point demands. A protest was staged in front of the High Forest Estate office. This was followed by talks with the administrations led by the Joint Committee Chairman, Valparai V Hameed.



Following the disagreement, a consultative meeting with union leaders was held at a private hall. It discussed the current salary and after consultation to negotiate with the management that workers should finally be paid Rs. 475 per day.

It was decided to take the above request to the Government and implement it. The meeting was attended by the Joint Committee Chairman, Valparai V Hameed, union leaders Soundarapandian, Advocate Vinodkumar, Senthilkumar LPF, U Karuppaiya, Kalaivanan INTUC, Veeramani, Kesava Murugan VC,. Mohan Manikkam, Periyasamy, AITUC, Kalyani MDMK TP Shaji, Arunagiri, Balraj, Thangavel BMS, Salahuddin, Hameed and many others participated. Paramasivam from CITU concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks.
