District Collector requested to monitor distribution of tokens for vaccines against Covid-19 in Coimbatore

District Collector requested to monitor distribution of tokens for vaccines being administered against Covid-19 infections in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: There is a demand from the public to set up officials headed by the District Collector and the Corporation Commissioner to monitor if tokens are issued according to the number of vaccinations given in the areas under the Corporation of Coimbatore.

The Coronavirus vaccination centers have been set up at over 30 places in Coimbatore district and vaccinations are being administered to the public free of cost. Depending on the daily vaccination bookings, the centers are assigned 250 to 300 doses of the vaccine and tokens are issued accordingly.

People wait in queues from the wee hours of the morning at vaccination centers, including the Government Primary Health centers and Government schools. To avoid this, the district administration has been issuing notices of the centers that will be administering vaccines from 8 am, then tokens are issued at 10 am and vaccinations begin by 11 am.

“The Coimbatore district administration and the Corporation administration are vaccinating the public free of charge. 12 to 14 doses are administered in one bottle of vaccine. In the meantime, tokens have been issued and the public are vaccinated accordingly. By then, the number of vaccines left in some places is greater than the number of people who have been issued a token and vaccinated.

For example, while 250 people are given tokens and vaccinated, there are some vaccines left in some places that can accommodate an additional five people. Therefore officials headed by the District Collector and the Corporation Commissioner should monitor the issue of tokens according to the number of doses available," emphasized the Peelamedu Divisional Secretary, Velliangiri.
