Strong opposition for indulging non-sanitary staff in office work in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: In Coimbatore Corporation, office work has been given to employees who are not engaged in sanitary work.

Coimbatore: In Coimbatore Corporation, office work has been given to employees who are not engaged in sanitary work.

There is opposition to this from various quarters. In Coimbatore, 325 sanitary workers were newly recruited last year. Most of the employees selected under the government order to provide sanitary work to all castes in general are highly educated. They were selected for cleaning work with high qualifications. Thus there was great controversy at the time. It is said that some of them have been refusing to do sanitary work to this day.

Government rules order dismissal of an employee who fails to perform his or her duties in accordance with public service rules. Yet so far no officer has taken action and are still encouraging them to work within the office. An order has been issued for 13 sanitary staff to work inside the office in the Coimbatore Corporation Central Zone.

Commenting on this, Samooga Neethi Katchi leader Panneer Selvam said: “If the sanitary workers, who are selected on the basis of compassion and belong to the lower class, it is customary to force them to do sanitary work in the wards. Despite the fact that government rules are common to all, caste fanaticism continues to discriminate against some and force them to do cleaning work. Some refuse to do the work and promote caste discrimination."

No action has been taken so far in this regard. Therefore, the Samooga Neethi Katchi has taken the initiative in calling for ward work for anyone who refuses to do cleaning work regularly. In this connection, an event will be held at 11 am todayat the Central Zone Office of the Corporation to meet the Assistant Commissioner and invite him with a 'Thamboolam' plate.
