Coimbatore: Days after a tribal hamlet near Coimbatore popped up in headlines with villagers climbing on trees to avoid vaccination due to fear caused due to misinformation by the anti-vax and country medicine lobby, the health department have now managed to vaccinate as many as 1,000 adivasis from Anaikatti region.

Citing the awareness program held in the last one week to be the reason for administering more people with vaccines, the block medical official sources say they had vaccinated nearly 100 people in the special vaccination programme conducted on Saturday.

The special vaccination drive camp was organised in the government middle school in Kondannur.

Of the 4,500 from the fourteen tribal hamlets in Anaikatti, the department has so far administered 1,000 people with the vaccine against Covid19.

'Nearly half of the total population in these hamlets are above 18 plus category and we are looking forward to organise more camps to vaccinate all', said sources.
