There is a stairway on the Noyyal River that runs near this temple. It is believed that 'Tithi' given to the dead on the banks of this river will redeem them from rebirth and they will go to Lord Siva.
Thus every year on the new moon of tamil month Aadi a large number of devotees come to this shrine to pay obeisance to the dead. Devotees from Coimbatore as well as the neighboring districts of Tirupur, Nilgiris and Kerala will arrive in Perur the day before. Due to the coronavirus last year, devotees were barred from visiting Perur on that day as a large number of devotees would gather.
But, with no restrictions this year, very few people were present. Due to the coronavirus only 5 persons were allowed to participate in the Tithi and only after a certain interval, the pujas were held wearing masks and permission was given to give Tithi in Perur. People say the crowd is low because many did not know the permission was given by Temple officials. Darpanam and Parikara Pujas are held regularly in the Amman Thoppu area near the Padithurai and in the area around the Aatrumedai Ganesha temple.
