The Forest Department was informed that a 3-year old male leopard was fighting for its life, trapped inside a barricade set up in Jyothi Nagar in Yellanhalli, near Ooty.
Wildlife rescuers who arrived at the scene immediately tried rescuing the leopard but it died tragically after a long four-hour struggle.
Later, the dead leopard was taken for autopsy and District Forest Officer, Gurusami Tabela said an investigation was underway with the owner of the land where the leopard had died.
