Coimbatore: Pollachi: A man has been arrested for trying to smuggle rice from fair price shops in Pollachi. 10 tons of ration rice was confiscated from him.

Pollachi Collector Thackeray Subham Gyanadev Rao received a tip-off that some people in Pollachi are getting free rice from the ration shops, hoarding it at a private godown in the Thippampatti area and smuggling it to Kerala at high prices. Accordingly, today when the Pollachi Collector conducted an inspection at the suspicious godown in Thippampatti area, it was revealed that there was a stockpile of about 10 tonnes of ration rice in bundles under various names.



Following this, the officers confiscated the vehicles used for the smuggling of ration rice and arrested Mohammad Toufeeq, a resident of Pollachi Market Road area.



The investigation revealed that Mohammad Toufeeq received ration rice from the public, bundled it under various names, smuggled it to Kerala and sold it at a high price.



Following a complaint lodged with the Komangalam Police on behalf of the Revenue Department, the police have arrested Mohammad Toufeeq, who smuggled the ration shop rice to Kerala by hoarding it in a godown.
