Coimbatore: Coimbatore district has received heavy rains in and around Valparai. Due to this, heavy rains are received in the catchment area of Chinnakallar and Nirar Dam in Sholayar Dam.
All the rainwater in the area goes to the Sholayar Dam through the Koozhangal River. As of 6 am today, 3,500 cubic feet of water in the Koozhangal river has gone to the Sholayar dam. The Koozhangal River area is a popular tourist destination due to the large number of tourists who enjoy bathing in it. Due to its proximity to the city of Valparai, the river is used by the public for washing and bathing.
Therefore, the Revenue Department has banned the public from bathing and washing clothes in the Koozhangal River to prevent casualties in the floods. It has also been decided that the Revenue Department in collaboration with the Forest officers will monitor the river
