The Rural Development Department official said, 14,000 people are being employed daily. Covid-19 cases were at its peak in Coimbatore district, last May. Every day, 4000 people were infected. Various measures were taken to control the Covid-19 infections in the district.

All the other factories except the essential ones were closed. The 100-day employment scheme offered under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme was also suspended due to the increase in infection in rural areas. The Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which was halted due to Covid-19 has been resumed. Now, 14,000 are employed daily in Coimbatore district and thus the workers in rural areas are overjoyed.

An official of the Rural Development Department said, 'Due to Covid-19 infection, the work was initially suspended for those over 55 years of age.
