Coimbatore City Crime Branch police are taking steps to prevent this. Police teams are set up day and night for this purpose and are engaged in intensive patrols. A few people who have lost their livelihoods and people from the north have been involved in jewellery looting targeting women and snatching the jewellery they wear. Similarly, Vijaya, 55, wife of Thangaraj from Dhanalakshmi Nagar, Narasimhanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, was picking flowers from her plants in front of her house last evening.
Two unidentified men wearing helmets on a motorcycle asked various questions like whether the house was available for rent. When Vijaya was responding, suddenly, the unidentified men wearing helmets snatched the 4 sovereign chains around Vijaya's neck and fled. Hearing Vijaya neighbors came to help but teh miscreants left. Periyanaickenpalayam police have registered a case and are investigating the complaint lodged by Vijaya. The people of the area have demanded the police to put an end to such chain robberies.
