Compensation of Rs. 20 crore disbursed for land acquired for Pillur 3rd drinking water project

Coimbatore: The Pillur 3rd Drinking Water Project is being implemented at a cost of Rs. 970 crore in view of the growing population in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The Pillur 3rd Drinking Water Project is being implemented at a cost of Rs. 970 crore in view of the growing population in Coimbatore.

A total of 113 acres of land is to be acquired from farmers and villagers for this project. Rs 105 crore has been allocated for this. Negotiations were held with the farmers regarding the acquisition of the land. Land acquisition has been intensified following the agreement. So far 23 acres of land has been acquired with compensation of Rs 20 crore to the landowners.

An official of the Revenue Department said that the Coimbatore Corporation is getting drinking water through projects including Siruvani, Pillur 1, Pillur 2, Aliyar joint venture project Pillur 3rd Drinking Water Project is being implemented to provide 178 MLT of drinking water daily to the Corporation, taking into account the growing population and companies. For this purpose, a tunnel is constructed at a distance of 4 km from the source of drinking water to the location of the drinking water treatment plant. A further 55 km of drinking water pipes are to be laid. 30 acres of government land has been acquired for this project. 113 acres of land has to be acquired from private owners.

In the first phase, 23 acres of land has been acquired from 135 landowners. They have been given Rs 20 crore as compensation for this. Work is underway to acquire the land by paying compensation to the remaining landowners
