Corporation Commissioner inspects Central Zone to create awareness among public on preventing mosquito-borne diseases in their houses

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara of the Central Zone conducted an inspection to create awareness among the public about mosquito-borne diseases.

He inspected the Coimbatore Corporation Central Zone's Ward No.49, Ratnapuri Nehru Park premises and asked field workers who visit the public door-to-door to properly diagnose colds, flu, cough etc. and to also enter details of colds, flu and cough in Covid-19 field survey records. This allows people with colds, flu and coughs to be diagnosed early if they have contracted a Covid-19 infection and hence can be taken to the hospital for immediate treatment. The Corporation Commissioner urged workers to do their work well and wear face masks during field work, sanitize hands frequently and get themselves vaccinated.

The Corporation Commissioner also raised awareness to prevent diseases caused by mosquitoes due to the prevailing rainy season. The field workers were asked to check if drums in house compounds were properly sealed, and to educate the people to keep their terraces and water tanks clean since the Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs in fresh water stored in cement tanks, which turn into mosquitoes that causes the spread of diseases. He therefore asked field workers to urge the public to dispose of unused items and keep their water tanks and drums covered.

The Corporation Commissioner then inspected the Government Primary Health Center at Nanjappa Road under Ward No.72 and checked the records of pregnant mothers, vaccines for mothers, treatments, etc. on the Maternal Health Care Card, maintenance, outpatient register and Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy scheme allowances for pregnant women. He then visited and inspected the maintenance records there.

Later, the Corporation Commissioner also inspected the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign at the Devanga High School Road Corporation Primary School. Central Zonal Assistant Commissioner Sivasubramanian, Assistant Chief Engineer Karuppusamy, Zonal Health Officer Radhakrishnan and Corporation officials were present during the inspection.
