Joint meeting of union leaders decide to suspend second phase of protest in Valparai

Coimbatore: Private estate owners in Valparai, Coimbatore district, are due to sign a new wage agreement with union leaders from the first of this month, following the expiration of the plantation workers' previous contract.


Coimbatore: Private estate owners in Valparai, Coimbatore district, are due to sign a new wage agreement with union leaders from the first of this month, following the expiration of the plantation workers' previous contract.

Accordingly the union announced that it would hold a protest in front of each of the estate offices from July8th on behalf of the joint committee as none of the estate had negotiated this new contract. Accordingly, the first protest took place at the High Forest Estate. It called for talks with industry leaders ahead of the protest, which was to take place in various parts of the country.

Following this, a consultative meeting was held today at the private Hotel in Valparai. V. Hameed led LPF Union General Secretary Advocate Vinod Kumar, Union President Soundarapandian, AITUC Mohan, INTUC Kalaivanan alias Salik, Viduthalai Siruthaigal Veeramani and Kesavamarugan were present.

At the meeting, LPF trade union general secretary Vinod Kumar demanded that the Tamil Nadu government negotiate a new wage agreement. The resolution was passed unanimously at the consultation meeting that the estate owners could not negotiate in a meeting due to Covid-19 protocol hence invited the union leaders to negotiate the demand with the leaders elected by the joint committee and that all union leaders should attend the meeting for salary negotiations.

In this consultative meeting AITUC Periyasamy, Manikkam, LPF. CITU Paramasivam thanked all union leaders and executives including TMC Senthil Kumar, BJP Thangavel, Senthil Murugan and Karthi.
