'Kongunadu should be declared as separate state for administrative convenience:' Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam President, Best Ramasamy

Coimbatore: Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam State President, Best Ramasamy met the media at the Coimbatore Press Club.

Addressing the media, he said that the state of Tamil Nadu previously had only 12 districts but is now divided into 38 districts. He said there are currently 34 ministers and despite the high tax revenue, nothing had happened in the Kongunadu area on a pro rata basis.

Best Ramasamy opined that 66 percent of the tax revenue in Tamil Nadu goes to the Government from the 11 districts of Kongunadu. He also accused the Government of doing nothing for these areas and only received revenue. He also remarked that dividing the Kongu region into separate states for administrative convenience would further develop the region.

"We have been making this request since 1976. Our intention is that the area of Kongunadu should prosper. Kongunadu is not just for the Gounder community, it is for everyone living in the Kongu area. We are not asking for a separate country, but just for a separate state. The 10.5 per cent reservation given to the Vanniyar community was wrong and reservation should be given on economic grounds. Ramadas was asking for North Tamil Nadu to be given to the Vanniyar.

This has nothing to do with AIADMK because AIADMK did not oppose the Kongunadu issue. The AIADMK Deputy Co-ordinator said the protest may have been Munusamy's opinion. We will strengthen the demand of Kongunadu by bringing all the communities together. We have petitioned the Central Government regarding the request and we will meet the Prime Minister soon," added Best Ramasamy.
