Coimbatore: Coimbatore Divisional Transport Corporation officials had announced that an additional fleet of 146 buses will be operated in the city from July 8 to ease traffic congestion.

Since Covid-19 cases have been on the decline, the Government had granted permission for state and private bus services to resume across the state from Monday. In the first phase, 550 buses were operated in Coimbatore district.

On the first day, very few passengers could be seen in buses, but thereon commuters have slowly begun thronging more buses to travel to cities and suburbs in the morning and evening.

Due to this, in order to control the increase in passenger arrivals and congestion, an additional 62 buses were operated from Coimbatore to the suburbs in addition to the existing 62 buses, and an additional 146 buses were added to the 83 buses in the city.

Thus a total of 696 buses are operating in Coimbatore since Thursday. Coimbatore Divisional Transport Corporation officials added that more buses would be operated, if required by the public.
