Coimbatore: After a spate of Covid-19 cases that devastated Coimbatore district, including Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode districts, the spread of the disease has now been curtailed and curfew relaxed.


Coimbatore: After a spate of Covid-19 cases that devastated Coimbatore district, including Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode districts, the spread of the disease has now been curtailed and curfew relaxed.

Police are intensifying surveillance since public transport permits have been issued.

Coimbatore Division DIG Muthusamy said, "Surveillance and police security work in Coimbatore is being done thoroughly. 24-hour surveillance is carried out at the district and state boundaries to prevent crime. Alcohol and drug trafficking, and food smuggling is being curbed. Tests were carried out in the Nilgiris, Tirupur and Coimbatore districts, especially in the Western Ghats to detect the movement of Maoists and anti-social groups. Operational Police Naxal prevention unit police are constantly engaged in surveillance.

Financial assistance to the general public affected by the spread of Covid-19 was carried out through police stations in various areas. Food was provided to the poor and common people. A public meeting is planned to promote public-police relations. The police have been advised to speak kindly to the public and resolve grievances. If the police have amiable relations with people, crime rate will go down," added DIG Muthusamy.
