Heavy security deployed after recovery of 1 crore worth of land owned by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department


Coimbatore: A hotel in Coimbatore was built on land owned by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. The hotel was demolished on Wednesday with a JCB machine amidst heavy police security. Bala Dandayudhapani Temple is located in the Sukrawarpet area of Gandhi Park, Coimbatore. The temple is owned by the Hindu Religion and Charitable Endowments Trust. Siruvani restaurant had occupied the one crore worth of land owned by the temple.

A case had been registered alleging encroachment on the temple land. The Court ruled that the occupied land belonged to the Hindu Religion and CharitableEndowments Trust and hence the restaurant on the land was demolished in the presence of the South Tahsildar led by the Assistant Commissioner of Hindu Religious Affairs, Vijayalakshmi. Heavy police security was deplyed at the scene due to the removal of encroachments.
