1472 government buses operating from Coimbatore


Coimbatore: The lovkdown was relaxed and public transport was allowed to operate from yesterday. Following this, 1472 government buses were operated from Coimbatore division on behalf of TN State Transport Corporation.

Public and private buses were completely grounded since last May due to a curfew order imposed to control the spread of the Corona pandemic. The Tamil Nadu government has announced that public transport services will be suspended until further notice.

Since cases have declined gradually in the district, further relaxation of the curfew was granted and permission was granted to start public transport from yesterday. 1472 buses were operated from Coimbatore line.

According to an official of the Coimbatore division State Transport Corporation, '1472 buses were operated from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and Nilgiris. In Coimbatore district alone, 535 buses were operated. Of these, 338 city buses and 197 Moffusilbuses were operated.

Buses were operated from Coimbatore to Madurai, Trichy, Karur and Salem. Only 50 percent of passengers are allowed on all buses. Coronavirus rules were fully followed. Additional buses will be operated as per the demand of the passengers' he said.

Passengers were happy with bus service but many buses were seen to be fully loaded in Coimbatore and many public have requested transport authorities and bus conductors to have a strict watch of these rules.
