Brothers living in Coimbatore arrested by Kerala police for defrauding many youth of several lakhs promising overseas jobs
Coimbatore: Coimbatore: Kerala police arrested two brothers in Coimbatore on Thursday evening for allegedly swindling money from young graduates by setting up private employment centers in various states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
The duo reportedly defrauded several youth of lakhs of rupees by promising placement of overseas jobs. The brothers are Uday Shankar (34) and Pradeep Shankar (31), sons of Rangasamy from Peelamedu.
Both of them reportedly set up employment offices in various places including Coimbatore, across Kerala and Andhra Pradesh promising jobs in various countries, including Dubai and Australia. They advertised that they would get jobs for youth with a salary of Rs. 1 lakh, per month. Many young people reportedly approached the duo and paid them in lakhs but ended up not securing a single job.
When the disapppointed youth asked for a refund of their money after a long wait, the brothers reportedly shut their offices and absconded. Sreejith (23) from Thrissur in Kerala lodged a complaint at the Mala police station in Thrissur alleging that he had paid Rs. 4 lakhs to the duo. Following the complaint, the Kerala police arrived in Coimbatore on Thursday.
Uday Shankar and Pradeep Shankar were arrested with the help of Coimbatore police and taken to Kerala. It was revealed that more than a 100 youth were cheated out of lakhs of rupees. There was already a prior case booked by the Coimbatore All Women Police against Uday Shankar, who was arrested for cheating a woman into marriage.
