One youth killed and 3 injured as speeding car plummets 40 ft from Pollachi railway flyover



Coimbatore: Below the railway flyover near Vadakkipalayampirivu, Pollachi. there are over a 100 apartments. Close to midnight on Monday, a car fell from the flyover onto the house of Shanmugasundaram, a retired government school teacher. Neighbours along with Shanmugasundaram rushed to the spot on hearing a deafening noise to find four youth in the overturned car. They immediately informed the Pollachi taluk police who arrived at the scene and rescued the youth from the site of the car crash.

Srikanth (34), a resident of Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, who was driving the car died on the spot. Kaushik (26), Karthik Kannan (26) from Coimbatore and Gopinath (26) from Pollachi were admitted to a private hospital with grievous injuries. During the first phase of the investigation, it was discovered that Srikanth who was working for a private advertising agency is said to have recently received a new advertising campaign and to celebrate this, he had invited three of his friends to Pollachi.



Later, while driving in his luxury car to Pollachi from Vadakipalayam, Srikanth reportedly lost control of his speeding car at a bend on the railway flyover and the car hurtled down 40-feet onto the apartments below.



The police have registered a case and sent the body of the deceased Srikanth to the Pollachi Government Hospital for autopsy. Frequent accidents occur due to the curved bend of the flyover near the Vadakkipalayampirivu. The public have complained to the authorities several times that the parapet wall of the flyover should be raised but no action has been taken thus far. Residents in the area have demanded that safety measures be taken immediately for motorists on the flyover as well as to prevent civilian casualties in the houses below the flyover.
