Token system to be dropped; Covid-19 vaccines on first come first serve basis in PHCs in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Corporation officials said the practice of issuing tokens to pay for vaccines would no longer be practiced.

Coimbatore: Corporation officials said the practice of issuing tokens to administer vaccines would no longer be practiced.

To control the corona epidemic in Coimbatore, 51 special camps have been set up at government primary health centers and municipal schools and vaccinations are being administered to public using the token system.

Tokens are being distributed to the public for this. Due to the shortage of vaccines, only a small number of people are vaccinated daily. Because of this many are in a position to return with disappointment.

People were dissatisfied as it was announced that 100 tokens would be issued daily for vaccination in camps set up in Coimbatore metropolitan areas and in many places only 60 to 70 people were given tokens.

People condemned this and took part in the public protests too. In this case, the distribution of tokens has been stopped due to irregularities in the distribution of tokens.

A health official of the corporation said, "The practice has been halted due to persistent irregularities in the distribution of tokens at vaccination centers. Instead, it is planned to vaccinate the first 100 people to arrive at the camp. Others will be sent back. Thus, the gathering of people unnecessarily will be avoided."

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive was canceled yesterday and today due to lack of stock of vaccines. Unaware of this information, many people went to vaccination camps and returned disappointed.

Tomorrow's camps have already been announced and public see the camps list here.

Vaccination camps for the age group of 18 years & above will be held on 29-06-2021. COVISHIELD Vaccination starts from 10:00AM onwards at the below listed locations
