Complaint box placed in cemeteries on behalf of Coimbatore corporation
Coimbatore: The bodies of those who died of coronavirus infection in Coimbatore are cremated in 12 cemeteries.
A complaint box has been set up in these cemeteries on behalf of the corporation and it has been well received by the people. The second wave of coronavirus infection started last March and spread quite rapidly. Coronavirus' effect was higher in the second wave than in the first wave which increased the fatality rate.
The bodies of those who died of Covid-19 were crematedin the electric cemeteries even at midnightas the death toll in Coimbatore was very high. Steps were taken to cremate the bodies of the deceased in 12 electric cemeteries on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation. 2 cemeteries at Saravanampatti, Singanallur, Nanjundapuram, Kavundampalayam, Veerakeralam, Thudiyalur, Peelamedu, Athupalam, Sokkamputhur, Podanur, Sidhapudur were cremated at 12 cemeteries.
Relatives of the deceased made several complaints about cemeteries charging exorbitant fees for cremation. Following this, action was taken on behalf of the corporation. A complaint box is now placed to solve this issue.
Corporation official said, "Coimbatore corporation charges only up to Rs 2,000 for cremation. But some outsiders have been cheating people among the people who come to the cemeteries and collecting by extorting more money. Outsiders are not allowed in the cemeteries at present. Complaint boxes have been placed in all the 12 cemeteries to find out more about the grievances of the people who visit the cemeteries at present. In this, people write not only their complaints but also their positive feedback. It has been well received by the people."
