Coimbatore: As the economy opens up slowly in the Coimbatore district, one of the 11 districts which the state government said the spread is looming, the vaccination drive has been ramping in order to vaccinate people to stop them from getting infected.

But, the district now faces another challenge that it has to grapple with— to vaccinate all the villages and talukas coming under it.
Only 1.68 lakh people out of 4.8lakh within city limit have been vaccinated till June 15, mostly with single jabs. However, a section of people from Perur taluk near Coimbatore say they have not received single jab till date.
The vaccine exclusion have angered them and the residents say they are forced to go on miles to get their jabs.
"I reside in postal colony in Perur and the people of my area have not vaccinated as there was no vaccination camp organised in our area", said a resident.
While the city corporation and the district administration keep organizing vaccination camp to inoculate people in various people, the section of people here says a different story.
The working people and the low wage employees at this area say they are fearing job loss as the organization they work for demands employees to be vaccinated.
“Fearing job loss and to save us from Covid, we have taken our jabs reaching out to the centres in city limits. But many people here can not travel”, said a resident.
Coimbatore, the district where the vaccination rate is on third in the state, is ramping up the drive though there are no camps on several days due to various reasons.
Rajasekar, Thondamuthur health department official, who is monitoring vaccination drive camps, say the district administration has to take step on this matter and organise camp there.
“We are organising every camps under the instructions of district administration and so far have vaccinated as many as 48,000 people from Thondamuthur and Perur block”, he told.
When asked how the district administration have missed to organise a camp at this particular area in Perur, the officer replied the administration will look in to it.
While the arduous wait for vaccination continues in several locations in the district, no vaccination camps at this area paints a grim picture.
Sources within city corporation office, when contacted, said they can not answer on this as the location does not come under corporation limit.
District administration sources were not available for comments.
