Natural disaster consultation meeting to discuss measures ahead of southwest monsoon in Valparai


Coimbatore: Heavy rains have lashed the Valparai and Western Ghats in Coimbatore district for the last four days. It has been raining continuously in the Valparai estate area.



The general public tea plantation workers are facing difficulties due to the continuous rains. A consultative meeting of all departmental officers was held under the chairmanship of Valparai Tahsildar Rajan on Natural Disaster Management.



The consultation meeting was held with the police inspector Maheshwari, Special Tahsildar Muthukumar health department Dr. Babu Lakshmanan, municipal department Selvaraj, electricity department, public works department and education department. The meeting also called for the Valparai Government Boy's School to be used to protect the public near the Valparai residential area where rivers are likely to be flooded. It was decided if there was a power outage, the power supply must be restored as soon as possible and it was decided that trees near houses should be removed.



Valparai transport sector was instructed to prevent rain water from entering the bus and not to drive the bus with malfunction. They also instructed the public to drink boiled water during the rainy season and consult at government hospitals in case of fever and cold. Public are advised to Municipality and police department telephone for emergency assistance during rainy seasons.
