Female elephant killed near Urulakuzhi in Anaimalai Tiger Reserve
Coimbatore: Forest Department Anti-Hunting Police were on patrol in the Azhiyar Urulakuzhi valley area under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Pollachi Forest Reserve.
Arokiyaraj Xavier, director of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, was informed that a 46-year-old female elephant had died in the area.
Following the information, the forest officials went to the spot and saw the dead elephant. The cause of death of the elephant will be known after a physical examination. Veterinarian Sukumaran said they were examining the body of the dead elephant.
If the dead elephant had died of natural causes it will be left as feed for other animals in the area. Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Director Arokiyaraj Xavier said that the elephant would be dug up in the area if the autopsy revealed that the dead elephant had died of a disease.
