Musicians who lost their livelihood during pandemic appeal to Government for help
Coimbatore: In places like Maniyakarampalayam and Chinnavedampatti in Coimbatore, there are over 500 families of musicians for whom playing 'thavil' and 'nayanam' at weddings are means to their livelihood.
Arumugapandi Arasi, a businessman from the Sundarapuram area of Coimbatore, donated essential items such as lentils to musicians whose livelihoods were paralyzed due to the Government's ban on weddings and temple festivals during the lockdown period due to the ravaging second wave of Covid-19.
Speaking at the event, businessman Arumuga Pandi said that musicians who depend on the music industry have been affected by the ravaging impact of the second wave of Covid-19. He said his team of volunteers had been donating relief supplies for the second year in a row. They urged the Government to immediately provide subsidies to these musicians.
Musicians whose livelihood has been affected also urged the Government to provide them with benefits, subsidies and relief similar to other businesses.
