Swindling money by receiving ATM PIN numbers claiming to provide low interest loan: 4 people arrested in Pollachi

Coimbatore: Police have arrested four Pollachi youths for fraudulently obtaining ATM card PIN numbers in a bid to get low interest loans in Coimbatore. It has been revealed that this gang has swindled money from all over Tamil Nadu starting from Sivakasi.

Mohandas, 58, of Then Colony in Sivakasi, runs a mic set business. He met Ashok who said that he was conducting an accounting firm in Thiruvarur and that its head office was in Hyderabad. He said that they would give low interest loans through their accounting office and said with the Aadhar card and ATM PIN number there was no need to come in person.

Believing this, Mohandas applied for a loan of 5 lakh rupees. His cousin Sakthivel, a firecracker worker, came forward to borrow Rs 3 lakh and auto driver Lingaraj Rs 1 lakh. The trio together paid Rs 80,000 as processing fee for the loan and showed it to Ashok's account but no information came from Ashok after that. His cell phone was switched off.

Only then were the three shocked to learn that they were cheated. The victims lodged a complaint at the Maraneri police station. The Virudhunagar Economic Crimes Division police conducted an investigation and arrested four persons, namely David Raja of Pollachi, Patalraj alias Ashok, Raj and Krishnakumar.

The detainees testified that they had asked for the PIN numbers of the ATM cards to swindle the money in the buyer's account if they came forward to get the loan. The investigation in Sivakasi was intensified as the gang was involved in this crime throughout Tamil Nadu. Police warn public not to divulge Aadhar card numbers or ATM card PIN numbers to anyone
