District Collector bans another hospital that charged extra from treating Covid-19 in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Private hospitals in Coimbatore have also been converted into coronavirus treatment centers and are being treated as per government orders. Among them, various private hospitals in Coimbatore are involved in looting 10 lakh, 15 lakh, 20 lakh and more than the fee fixed by the government. So far action has been taken against 4 hospitals due complaints.
Mohankumar (54) hails from the Sitra area of Coimbatore. The victim was admitted to the Manu Hospital on the 29th of this month at the Sungam Bypass Road. It is said that the hospital management, which then charged 60,000 rupees for the first day's treatment, charged 40,000 rupees for each day of treatment. Following this, Mohankumar, who was receiving treatment, alleged that he had been charged more than the prescribed fee and his brother Mahalingam filed a petition with the Coimbatore District Collector urging him to take appropriate action.
When asked about this, the hospital said that they could tell about it only after seeing the documents of the person who was admitted and received treatment. The same hospital has been the subject of complaints for the past few days amid allegations that private hospitals are overcharging for coronavirus treatment. Now as another complaint has been lodged in this regard the license to provide coronavirus treatment was revoked following a complaint that Muthus Hospital in Saravanampatti area was overcharging a few days ago.
The Tamil Nadu government had said in the High Court that the licenses of private hospitals charging higher fees would be revoked. Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation today, Urban Development Minister KN Nehru said that following the complaints received by the private hospitals that the private hospitals were charging high fees, the District Collector Nagarajan had said that the collection of higher fees was now declining. However, he said action would be taken in case of complaints.
