Coimbatore: Even as Coimbatore district limps through the impact of the second wave of Covid-19 that ravaged many lives, several Covid wards in and around Coimbatore district report lack of basic amenities.
According to Covid patients being treated at one of the Covid wards that has been set up with more than 200 beds in CODISSIA, reportedly lacks basic amenities such as proper food and drinking water.
Acting on the complaint, the district’s income department visited the ward today. A group of officers reacted promptly and asked health officials to install two water purifiers in the ward to help meet patients' requirements. The swift action was initiated only after patients complained of lack of several precautionary measures taken by Government agencies to curb casualties owing to Covid-19.
A health official monitoring Covid prevention activities in the district clarified that the issue of lack of basic civic amentities had been solved immediately and patients had immediate access to water purifiers. The official, however, refuted the allegations of lack of food and said there might be some delay in the supply of food to patients by attendants. The official also informed that there was no lack of food supply and added that allegations stating otherwise were false.
Meanwhile K N Nehru, Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply informed that the district had been administered with as many as 2.01 crore vaccines, which is second in the state. Addressing the media, the Minister also stated that health officials and Corporations officials were trying their best to bring down Covid-19 cases on a war footing.
“As many as 38 camps have been organised in the Crporation limit to vaccinate people. We have also done door-to-door surveillance with more than 4,000 corporation workers, ensuring all have been tested using thermal scans and checked with pulse oximeters to note down saturation levels,” explained Minister K N Nehru. He also detailed that 100 camps are being conducted in the district to check for those who could be infected by the virus.
