Nilgiris Tahr rest on Valparai roads due to less traffic during complete lockdown

Coimbatore: With the Tamil Nadu Government imposing complete lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 across Tamil Nadu, Valparai roads wear a deserted look without traffic in most areas.

Valparai in Coimbatore district is home to various wildlife including the Nilgiri Tahr which lives only in hills and is also known for being the state animal of Tamil Nadu. Nilgiris Tahr herds are usually spotted in the hills as well some parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Attakatty area in Valparai Pollachi Road was recently seen strewn with herds of rare Tahrs resting due to less and sometimes nil movement of traffic on the roads.
