320 liquor bottles smuggled from Karnataka: 2 arrested including lorry driver.
Coimbatore: Two persons, including a lorry driver, have been arrested for smuggling liquor from Karnataka. 320 bottles of liquor. was seized and a lorry carrying loads from Karnataka was parked at a workshop in Bharathi Nagar, Karamadai, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. Mettupalayam police received a tip-off that liquor bottles were hidden in the lorry. Following this, on the orders of the District Superintendent of Police, Mettupalayam Deputy Superintendent of Police Arokkiyaraj led by Inspector Sivakumar, Sub-Inspectors Rajaprabu, Ilavendan, Venkatesh and the police went to the spot and inspected the lorry. It was then discovered that 320 bottles of liquor and 48 packets of alcohol were stored in the truck.
Following this, the police arrested Rajendran 40, a lorry driver from Karamadai Gandhi Nagar and conducted an investigation. It was revealed that the liquor was smuggled from Karnataka. Police subsequently confiscated bottles of alcohol. Police have registered a case against Lorry driver Rajendran, lorry cleaner and arrested two persons including Babu 43 alias Muniyappan of Mettupalayam MS Nagar, for smuggling liquor. The truck used for the abduction was also confiscated. Police said the value of the liquor bottles smuggled by them was estimated at Rs 3 lakh.
