Coimbatore: Resident of Podanur, 56-year old Ravi Peter who was undergoing treatment for covid at the Government Hospital (GH) in Coimbatore died this morning at the hospital.

While the family of the deceased alleges that medical negligence is the cause of death, Dr. A Nirmala Dean of the Government Hospital (GH) Coimbatore issued a clarification confirming that the patient suddenly collapsed and breathed his last. She reiterated that the patient was undergoing treatment as per protocol.

The 56-year old patient was admitted to the GH on 1 June. As the patient showed symptoms of corona virus, he underwent a test and was tested positive for covid. He has been undergoing treatment at the CPAP ward at the hospital since then. This morning, the patient was taken for a scan. “The oxygen cylinder which the patient was dependent on was filled to capacity. The patient suddenly collapsed and some patients who are suffering from the corona virus do. Despite all our efforts by our medical team to revive him, the patient could not make it.” Dr. Nirmala said.

It may be noted that within an hour of the patient’s death, the dean of the hospital looked into the matter and personally conducted an enquiry. No staff of the hospital is found guilty of medical negligence as claimed by the family. The family accepted the body and last rites were performed in the evening. When SimpliCIty contacted Prathap Ravi, one of the sons of the dead he said “We have no plans of filing a complaint in the police station and fighting a legal battle.”
