CITU urges conversion of 960 beds in Coimbatore ESI Hospital to Oxygen equipped beds
Coimbatore: CITU in Coimbatore said District administration is intensifying efforts to control the spread of coronavirus infection, more attention should be paid to ensuring that not a single person dies from the infection.
In that regard, the CITU union's Coimbatore district committee executives conducted a multi-stage inspection at the Coimbatore ESI Hospital. The requests have been listed and sent by email to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the Minister of Health.
In a statement issued by CITU District Chairman C. Padmanabhan and Secretary S. Krishnamurthy, "Centers have been set up and are being set up to isolate asymptomatic victims in various parts of Coimbatore district. In this situation, the 960 beds in Coimbatore ESI Hospital should be upgraded to oxygen beds. This can partially prevent the condition from suffering from lack of oxygen beds.
Similarly, those who have been diagnosed with coronavirus disease across the district are isolated after being admitted to the ESI Hospital and sent to the Center in Coimbatore Government Hospital. As a result, thousands of people gather in front of the ESI hospital every day. This is likely to increase the spread of the disease through activities such as going to nearby shops as infected people wait for hours. Therefore, the center (Triage Center) should be shifted to CODISSIA premises with more space for"
"The dominance of paid assistants (who take money to help get a bed) on the ESI campus has increased. All of these must be discarded. It is very important to create isolation for those who may need helpers and allow only close relatives to stay back. Ravikumar, who has been the supervisor at the ESI hospital for more than six years, has to be transferred. Manikandan and Pravin Kumar, the contract staff who find vacant beds in the ESI premises and allow patients for self-gain, should be investigated and action taken.
Infected people should be given unrestricted oxygen and medication as needed. The beds vacant in ESI should be uploaded on the computer focusing on the details of those allowed on the premises and those returning home after recovery. The temple maintenance work which has started on the premises at this critical time should be postponed. Of the 225 people hired for cleaning, about 75 are doing office work. They should be used only for cleaning purposes.
The infection is spreading fast by those who are with the infected at the Coimbatore Government Hospital by walking in public places. Demands have been brought to the attention of the Government of Tamil Nadu, including that action be taken to prevent this."
