Groceries to be sold to the public door-to-door by 511 vehicles in rural areas of Coimbatore district

Coimbatore: The district administration has stated that 511 push carts and vehicles loaded with groceries will distribute essentials in village panchayats and municipalities in Coimbatore district.

With the Tamil Nadu government imposing a complete lockdown across the State since May 10 to control the spread of Covid-19, all shops including vegetable shops and grocery stores had to be shut. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu had announced earlier that steps will be taken to sell groceries door-to-door. Accordingly, steps have been taken to sell groceries by push carts and mobile vehicles in the village panchayats and municipalities in Coimbatore district.

Coimbatore has 228 panchayats out of a total of 12 panchayat unions. Permission has been granted for 312 vehicles and push carts to sell groceries to the public at their doorstep. 199 mobile vehicles and trolleys have been allowed to sell groceries in 37 municipalities door-to-door. Public have been instructed to adhere to social distancing norms and wear masks even while shopping, since cooperating with the measures laid out by the Government could prevent the spread of Covid-19.
